TMT Technology

The development of Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) steel bars have made a remarkable impact on the steel manufacturing process due to its high strength and other significant features such as Weldability, Ductility, Bendability. TMT rods are manufactured using the (QST) Quenching and Self Tempering technology.


This metallurgical process assimilates heat-treatment and water hardening (Quenching) to a single process. We utilize injector technology Tempcore Certified quenching process which makes us an exclusive TMT steel manufacturer.


WHAT IS TMT?

The invention and development of the THERMO –MECHANICAL TREATMENT technology used for the reinforcement of steel bars in Civil Construction has brought about a drastic change in Steel bars manufacturing process and quality improvement as a result of its Tolerance in terms of Strength, Weldability, Ductility & Bendability. Minar TMT rods are manufactured using the Quenching & Tempering (Q&T) technology. This metallurgical process assimilates heat-treatment and water hardening (Quenching) to a single process. Latest Q&T technology brings Minar TMT steel bars to match with international quality standards. We utilize injector technology Tempcore licensed quenching process which makes us an exclusive TMT steel manufacturer. When the bars are taken out of the cooling system, the heat flows from the core to the outer surface, causing further tempering of the steel bars thereby helping them in attaining higher yield strength of steel. The resulting heat treated structure has high strength and good toughness properties. .

Tempcore Process

Thermo Mechanically Treated Steel known as TMT steel can be described as a new generation high strength steel, having superior properties such as Weldability, Strength, Ductility and Bendability meeting highest quality standards. TMT Steel bars are made to pass through specially designed water cooling system where these are kept for such a period that the outer surface of the bar becomes colder while the core remains hot. This creates a temperature gradient in the bar. When the bars are taken out of the cooling system, the heat flows from the core to the outer surface, causing further tempering of the steel bars thereby helping them in attaining higher yield strength of steel. The resulting heat treated structure has high strength and good toughness properties.

Quenching

Minar TMT bars are produced using the most advanced quenching system known as the TEMPCORE system in order to obtain high material properties such as excellent weldability, ductility and bendability. After the hot rolled steel leaves the mill stand the product is rapidly and energetically water cooled, this process is called quenching. Using the TEMPCORE technology the hot rolled steel is rapidly cooled through the cooling station, where it undergoes a surface hardening (martensite layer). Through the quenching process, the surface layer is TEMpered by using the residual heat left in the core of the bar (self tempering of the martensite layer). Then after the treatment, the product lies on the cooling bed where the bar is subjected to normal cooling down to ambient temperature (transformation of the residual austenite in the core). TEMPCORE technology is to date the best process for the production of high quality TMT bars and Minar TMT is India’s one and only steel manufacturer authorized to use TEMPCORE Trademark from the Centre for Research in Metallurgy, Belgium.

Speed is a key concern when it comes to elemental analysis of metals. SpectroMaxx, the single spark metal analyzer used in our lab provides computerized results of 29 elements in a flashing 20sec! This helps us achieve better productivity, traceability and time savings than ever before.
